Otelia Cromwell Portrait Unveiling On Monday evening, Head of College John Witt unveiled the portrait of Otelia Cromwell, the first African-American woman to earn a Ph.D. at Yale. The portrait was created by Davenport Graduate Affiliate Kenturah Davis, MFA ’18. It’s an amazing work of art, ingeniously crafted out of Cromwell’s own words. The Davenport Common Room erupted last night when the Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl 41-33. There were a few disappointed Patriots fans to console, but after a quick read of the room, it was clear that the Eagles were the crowd favorite throughout our viewing party. This was partly due to the fact that our Head of College, John Witt, is from Philly and was rooting for his hometown team. Go Eagles!

This week, Jennifer Egan came to Davenport to talk about her new and critically acclaimed novel, Manhattan Beach.  Egan is the author of five previous books of fiction, and her A Visit from the Goon Squad won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
